Met Fritz, JP, and Evan at HHS and warmed up over to Liberty. I am a little frustrated with my workout. My legs were not fresh, so I thought I would do one loop at a good effort and then the second loop at marathon pace or so (hoping for 6:15). Maybe I pushed the first lap too hard, but I don't know. I was falling apart on the second and just didn't feel good at all. Loop one was at 5:49 pace. I started into loop 2 and settled in at about 6:00 and slowed up from there. I was barely hanging on so I pulled the plug at the mile mark, ending that mile at 6:15. I finished the loop and met back up with the group to run back to HHS.

Think about it this way - you did 85% of the workout you intended, on a day you weren't "on." That's not a terrible outcome.

Thanks Jake. That is a good point. I also don't really know where I am at right now with speed. I don't have a benchmark or baseline to work from yet. Perhaps I will do some 400s the first week of January to determine what I am dealing with going into training for my spring race.

This is the offseason. No stressing out about workouts in the offseason. You are just putting the legs on notice. There will be plenty of weeks and months to stress out about workouts. Enjoy the holidays and think of running as little as possible.

Like I like to say, it's good to get frustrated by increasingly faster times. A 5:49 loop is far from shabby.

Or perhaps that was a 6:49 on the first loop typo. Either way - too soon to matter.

Thanks Josh. I am feeling a little better as the day goes on. I just want to have a breakthrough and be "fast"...whatever that means. No typo, 5:49 pace for the loop it was. You enjoy the holidays as well.
