5 miles - 3 loops around what I am now calling the Van Winkle loop. I ran this loop on Saturday and liked the grade a lot. It has a roller in it with a gradual down and the rest is mostly flat. It makes it easy to avoid any traffic as well.

Time was 36:48.91 - which is a 7:22 average pace. I have been working on my "easy" pace and have mentioned that I would like it to sit right around 7:30. I am feeling really good about this goal. Overall, on today's run I just enjoyed it and was in a nice rhythm. I think if I can feel comfortable between a 7:30 and 7:45 on my easy days and I can start to feel slightly uncomfortable yet tolerate 6:30, I will be in good shape. I will likely shoot for a short tempo this week at the 6:30 pace to see how that is feeling.

At least this sounds like a decent plan for now.

Sounds good. My only comment is don't let the pace on your watch drive your effort. I think easy should be subjectively easy rather than an objective target.

For me, easy is a range depending on how I am feeling. If marathon pace is 6:40s then easy should probably be 7:15-8:15, but everyone is different and every day is different. Don't push it when you're not feeling it and don't slack when you are rearing to go.

Finally, mixing in some "moderate" pace runs when you don't have a workout the next day is a big way to build confidence. If you do 5-8 in the 6:50-7:10 range, you challenge important mental barriers and hopefully it feels better than you expect.

I guess that was two comments.

Thanks Josh. I agree with you on not letting my watch dictate my pace. I think we chatted about this a while ago. I have had a tendency in the past to worry about my pace too often on a run. Since Ogden, I have really tried to rely less on the watch and run more on feel like you are suggesting. Doing so made me realize my "easy" pace is a lot faster than I thought. I am going to continue to experiment and see where it leads me. So far, it has made me realize that 7:30 pace is comfortable where I used to freak out when I saw that pace on my watch!
