7 mile treadmill run this morning. This was my first time on the treadmill this year. Adam and I had planned to run outside but the storm changed our plans. I wanted to get in a speed workout this week and I thought today would be the best opportunity.

I warmed up for 2 miles and then did the next 3 miles in 1/4 mile repeats of 1/4 on and 1/4 off. I ended up doing 6 1/4 miles on at 6:00 pace and the 6 1/4 miles off at 8:00 pace. I felt pretty good, but was definitely worn out. I ended with another 2 mile cool down. I hope to still work in a couple tempo miles at marathon pace this week.

question for blog readers - would my 1.5 miles at the 6:00 pace be considered Threshold Miles or VO2 Max Miles...or neither?

A good rule of thumb is that threshold pace is about the pace you could hold for 60 minutes in a max effort (~15K pace?), while VO2 Max is about your 5K pace or slightly faster.

Thanks Jake. I think I was correct in placing those 1.5 miles in the VO2 Max category then. I am just a hack and 6:00 pace is cooking for me!

I think you're a great runner, I was very impressed with your form at Big Cottonwood. You're going to blow it out of the water soon.
