Happy New Year!

Tradition continued with Brayden, Scott, and Tyler. Last 6.16 solo. Felt good to go long and just run.

Don't know what is in store for this year yet. Still pending.

Per the conversation on Jake's post, a few said the strip early in the morning but this was Jeff's advice:

"Another good run if you have a car is at the Clark County Wetlands Park out off the old Boulder Highway and Tropicana near Sam's Town. Nice system of trails."

I just said the same thing on Jake's blog before I saw your comment, Jason. Thanks. It is some neat trails and I have not had a chance to explore the entire 13-15 mile loop.

"Fun" run up the backside of Wire with Jake and Scott. I have to put fun in quotes because I took the worst spill of my running career on the way back down. I kicked a rock and lost my footing. Right when I thought I was going to catch myself and pull it off, I hooked my left toe on a root and face planted. I slid and rolled. Knee, both elbows, hip, and back are all bloody. Blew apart the side of my shoe on the root. Good times.

New shoes make me smile....yet, the trail this morning made me smile even bigger. It was a near perfect morning. Met Jake and his friend Rich in Millcreek. We ran up Rattlesnake to the Pipeline and up to Elbow Fork. We then ran across the road and over to the terraces. I think that is what they are called. I had never been over there. It loops back down the canyon, back across the road, and back down the Pipeline and Rattlesnake to our cars. 15 miles and almost 3 hours on my feet felt good. Been a while since I have logged that distance and that much time on feet.

It was interesting to run this route today. It was almost like I was saying hellow and goodbye to a good friend. A friend with whom I became really acquainted last summer training for Wasatch. I ran Mueller many times. One week I think I ran it 4-5 times. It is a great go-to and one where I can simply cruise and get lost in it all. I like that.

What's your favorite pair of Hokas that you have?

From james (runmehappy) on Wed, May 11, 2016 at 08:44:07 from 70.103.84.228

Josh - I am a big fan of the Challenger. It is a trail shoe and it is awesome. It will be my go-to trail shoe as long as I can find them. It is light, yet durable. I wore it for Wasatch and never swapped shoes. I actually have never owned a road pair of Hokas, but I want to buy a pair soon. The Clifton is the road equivalent of the Challenger. Yet, they have come out recently with some pretty sweet road shoes. Both the Challenger and the Clifton are on their second iteration, so you can find the original for about $79 right now.

Cold. Wet. Windy. 10 on the Pipeline with Scott. Was super fun even though it was freezing the last few miles.

What I call the "Ogden curse" struck again. Glad I was not racing Ogden or the "fun" run this morning.

Loop through Millcreek and Holladay with John. He extended on for a longer run while I bailed to go to work. Saw Fritz and crew shortly after we started. Next week we will have to combine forces for a large morning crew.

Ankle felt alright and hamstring didn't really bother me at all. Wore my ankle sleeve all night and on the run.

Vancott with Fritz, Noah, and Roo. I was not feeling good. I ran pretty hard yesterday, but don't know if that was the problem. The climbs were torture and my heartrate kept spiking a bit. Not a fan of that.

Well, sometimes when you lack motivation and you can't decide if you can get in shape for a fall race you go out and buy new shoes and then run a tempo (not in the new shoes).

Southern loop with 4 miles at tempo in the middle. Nothing crazy, but felt good to clip off some miles a little quicker and not feel like I was dying.
